The Minden Opera House is a non-profit facility that relies heavily on volunteers in a variety of positions. Here is a brief description of the volunteer jobs available at the Minden Opera House. Volunteers who assist with performances will get free admission to that event.

Event Opportunities

Asked to report 1 hour prior to performance

Ushers — Needed 1 hour prior to a performance, during intermission, and after the performance. Two ushers per door will be needed for general seating and 4 for reserved seating. With reserved seating, ushers must help guest find their seats, so being familiar with the seating chart is necessary. Ushers will be responsible for opening and closing the theatre doors before, during intermission and after a performance. They are to stay after a performance and help pick up litter in the theatre.

Box Office — Needed 1 hour prior to a performance and up to 10 minutes after performance has begun. Box office personnel will be trained on how to operate the ticket machine if necessary, how to run a credit card through the credit card machine and handle problems as they arise during an evening show.

Concessions — Needed 1 hour prior to a performance and during intermission. Concession volunteers will need to know how to set up the concession stand with ice, cups, candy, etc. Will also need to know how to use the popcorn machine and make sure there is plenty to serve the initial crowd. Volunteer also must know how to count change back to a guest. After the intermission, the volunteer will clean up the concession bar and may leave or stay and watch performance free of charge.

Gift Shop — Volunteers for the gift shop will be instructed on how to run the cash register and credit card machine. They will be asked to perform light cleaning, marking gift items and arranging displays from time to time. Daytime and pre-performance opportunities are available. If volunteer is working a shift prior to a performance (& at intermission), they may stay for the show free of charge.

Weekday Opportunities

Tuesdays - Fridays, scheduled between 10:00 am - 5:30 pm

Tours — (as needed) Tour volunteers will have information available about the history of the building, the planning that went into the renovation and facts on the mural. The tour volunteer will let them know there is a suggested tour donation price. A script is provided.

Website and Database entry — Volunteer is asked to help make updates to MOH website, Facebook, and Twitter pages as well as occasional help with cleaning up or adding entries to databases. Must be comfortable with computers. Usually 1-2 hours per month.

Front Desk — Volunteers will help with office projects such as preparing newsletters for mailing, labeling postcards or newsletters, folding napkins, and other tasks as necessary. Usually 1-2 hours per month.
